Ulva fenestrata protein – Comparison of three extraction methods with respect to protein yield and protein quality

Seaweed is gaining attention as a possible alternative and sustainable source of proteins. This study investigates three protein extraction methods their effect on yield quality when applied to Ulva fenestrata. Two the included alkaline extractions (pH-shifts); one version solubilizing proteins at pH 8.5 them followed by 12 (pH + 12). The third method was mechanical pressing, using double screw press. All were isoelectric precipitation concentrate Extraction gave significantly highest total after precipitation, lastly lowest yield. Proteins extracted with both had higher solubility 7 9, compared from pressing. There no significant differences between in D/L-amino acid ratio. Amino cross-links measured lysinoalanine (LAL) lanthionine (LAN) where found amounts alkali-extracted mechanically extracted, however not degree that expect compromise functional or nutritional quality.
